Hatch is a fashion haven showcasing the creations of some of Perth’s finest designers. Stocking only local designs, Hatch provides distinctive and fashion forward pieces. Once you walk through the tall, blue double doors, the first thing that stands out are two 3-panel room dividers presenting exquisite evening dresses from duo Lydia Tsvetnenko and Lara Kovacevic’s debut collection for label Zhivago. On display nearby in simple silver racks is Jeromy Lim’s debut menswear autumn/winter 2012 collection Kings Die Like Other Men. This classic collection merges raw edges with beautiful tailoring and detail to produce timeless black pieces that will never date. Also on offer is Zsadar, which, despite being a menswear label, offers up simple, well-cut pieces that can be worn by women. I was particularly taken by a double-breasted tunic-like top that almost resembled a lab coat.
One wall is reserved for a collection of Generics bags, displayed within salvaged frames made from weathered wood, lending a semi-rustic, bohemian air to the place. This theme is continued through to the counter that also displays unique, handmade jewelry in a baroque picture frame under the glass top. Truth be told, the beautiful collection of artisan jewelry is almost eclipsed by the arrangement of various drawers that make up the rather magnificent front panel of the counter. Before you go and attempt to pull any open, they are purely for novelty purposes. The rest of the store is simply outfitted in white, which worked effectively to offset the textures and colors of the clothes and accessories displayed. Other labels include On Tour, Steph Audino, Ange Lang and jewelry by Wildhorse and Frozen Skull Boy.
It is well worth popping into Hatch – not only are you welcomed graciously but you realise that Perth really does have a lot to offer in terms of fashion. Even if you can only afford to look, I highly recommend dropping by. The store is a visual treat, and you cannot help but feel proud of our local talent.
